Biography
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started fighting about four to five years ago after I finished wrestling in college. I wanted an outlet to compete in. Urijah Faber told me I would be good at fighting and I should try it. I did and I loved it.
What ranks and titles have you held? I am a purple belt in jiu-jitsu, I was the Gladiator Challenge Lightweight World Champ and the Palace Fighting Championship Lightweight World Champion.
Do you have any heroes? The Lord
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? This is the culmination of years of hard work and training. Being in the UFC helps me to realize that working hard and fighting anyone a promoter puts in front of you will take you places.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I graduated from California State University of Bakersfield in 2005 with a bachelors of science in Physical Education and Kinesiology. I am currently in the master’s program working on a master’s in math and a teaching credential.
What was your job before you started fighting? I have been an assistant wrestling coach at CSU Bakersfield since I finished my eligibility, and I bartended.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Two time PAC-10 finalist in wrestling, two time NCAA Division 1 national qualifier in wrestling. High school wrestling all-american
Favorite grappling technique: Rear naked choke
Favorite Striking technique: Head kick
