Biography
TRAINING: Training’s been very intense for this fight. I have finally recovered fully and have been able to train like I used to for every one of my fights. I have been spending my mornings doing my strength and conditioning at the Sports Science Lab. I then go to my gym, Team Oyama MMA, and hit pads and do bag work. I also spar nightly at my gym. Twice a week I wrestle at the California Republic Academy of Wrestling. Every Saturday I run sprints with my team.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I first started training as a hobby when I was 17 with Marco Ruas. When I went to college I focused mainly on academics and only trained periodically. Upon graduation I noticed the increasing demand and opportunity in MMA. I contemplated going to graduate school, or making a go at a career in MMA. I decided on pursuing an MMA career and began to train full time with Colin Oyama. I have been a part of Team Oyama for six years.
What ranks and titles have you held? WBC Muay Thai Heavyweight World Champion. Blue belt in BJJ
Do you have any heroes? Eddie Solomon
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It solidifies that I made the right decision in pursuing an MMA career. UFC is the top organization and I am proud and honored to fight alongside the other UFC athletes.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? UCI, graduating with a degree in Psychology
What was your job before you started fighting? Student
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Undefeated in amateur Muay Thai fights
