Eurosport - UFC: Irvin to rely on brute strength

James Irvin says he has not wasted much time trying to work out a gameplan for when he meets the world's top pound-for-pound fighter Anderson Silva on Saturday in what will be Silva's debut at light-heavyweight.

James Irvin says he has not wasted much time trying to work out a gameplan for when he meets the world's top pound-for-pound fighter Anderson Silva on Saturday in what will be Silva's debut at light-heavyweight.

Silva is regarded as one of the most multi-faceted fighters in mixed martial arts, and Irvin has quickly understood the futility of trying to map out a technical game plan with Silva.

Instead, Irvin has decided he's simply going to go in and brawl with Silva and hope that his size and strength wins out over Silva's speed, quickness and precision striking.

"I won't back down for a second from him," said Irvin. "That doesn't mean I will go crazy - he's the best fighter in the world for a reason and I respect that.
