Munoz HOFNow known as one of the rising stars in the UFC’s middleweight division, Mark Munoz revisited his roots Saturday night in Sacramento as he was inducted into the California State Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Fresh from a second round TKO of Kendall Grove at UFC 112 in April that earned him Fight of the Night honors, Munoz first came to the notice of sports fans thanks to his exploits on the mat, which saw him win the 2001 NCAA Division I national championship for Oklahoma State, where he was also a two-time All-American. “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” was also a high school national champion and two-time California CIF state champion, and a wrestling coach at UC-Davis, the school which launched the career of WEC star Urijah Faber (who also had a big Saturday, as he was inducted into the UC-Davis Hall of Fame).

Munoz, who was joined by a host of family and friends at the banquet, stated that he was “humbled and honored” by his induction.
